To mark Wimbledon’s arrival in London, Hotel Café Royal is set to introduce a limited-edition Tennis Championships Afternoon Tea, inspired by the flavours of the tournament with a modern pâtisserie twist
As the Championships return to Wimbledon, London’s landmark hotel, Hotel Café Royal, is set to celebrate the season with a limited-edition Tennis Championships Afternoon Tea.
Crafted by Head Pastry Chef Maxence Blondelle and served in the grand surroundings of the Café Royal Grill, the Wimbledon-inspired menu draws on the quintessential flavours of the British tennis season, reimagining one of London’s most familiar summer traditions through a playful collection of pâtisserie, savouries and seasonal creations.
The Matcha Court sharing cake offers a striking visual centrepiece. An homage to the colour and geometry of Britain’s signature grass courts, it echoes the fresh, green notes of matcha, offering a contemporary counterpart to the classic flavours that define the season. Finished in a vivid tennis-green glaze, the cake layers Matcha Mousse, Yuzu Curd and Matcha Sponge, balancing brightness with depth, in a composition designed for sharing during the Championships.
The British tennis theme continues through a collection of summer pastries that draw on both the flavours and visual language of the tournament. The Tennis Ball cake combines Strawberry Compote with Crème Fraîche Mousse, while the Chocolate Pebble layers Chocolate Mousse, Passionfruit Ganache and Cocoa Nibs Sponge. Berriolette brings together Violet and Berries Confit, Marzipan Sponge and Yoghurt Mousse, while a palate cleanser of Strawberry Sorbet with Elderflower Gel offers a final nod to one of the season’s most favoured partners.
The savoury selection remains rooted in the classic structure of Afternoon Tea while showcasing some of the finest British produce. Beginning with an amuse-bouche of Smoked Salmon with Chive Crème Fraîche and Keta Caviar, guests are then served finger sandwiches including Cucumber with Cream Cheese and Poppy Seeds, Cacklebean Egg with Mayonnaise, Watercress and Chives, Poached Chicken with Tarragon Mayonnaise and Gem Lettuce, and Chalk Stream Smoked Trout with Horseradish and Land Cress.
Traditional warm scones with clotted cream and a selection of preserves are served alongside a Café Royal’s signature teas and Champagne, completing a seasonal expression of craftsmanship and indulgence.
Enhanced by daily live piano performances, the experience invites both hotel guests and visitors to the capital to celebrate the renowned British grass tennis season from one of London’s most storied addresses. The Tennis Championships Afternoon Tea is served at Café Royal Grill and is available exclusively from 29th June to 19th July 2026. Reservations are recommended and can be made at hotelcaferoyal.com.
