A MICHELIN-STARRED VISION COMES TO SORRENTO

A MICHELIN-STARRED VISION COMES TO SORRENTO: LUIGI LIONETTI REDEFINES DINING AT ARA MARIS

A new culinary chapter unfolds at Ara Maris, where heritage meets modern
Italian gastronomy

Ara Maris, the design-led boutique retreat set above the Gulf of Naples, introduces a new gastronomic
identity under the direction of Luigi Lionetti, a Michelin-starred chef whose refined, contemporary
approach to Italian cuisine brings a new level of sophistication to the Sorrentine dining scene.
Born on the island of Capri, Lionetti’s relationship with food began long before professional kitchens. It
was shaped in his family home, learning his nonna’s secret ingredients to family recipes and helping
prepare the vegetables for family meals. These early influences instilled not only technique, but a deep
respect for ingredients and for the stories stirred into each dish. His path to a Michelin star was never
about reinvention alone, but about finding balance; between tradition and innovation.
That balance has come to define his career. From his passed down cooking knowledge to his time
alongside some of Italy’s most respected chefs, Lionetti has developed a style that feels authentic yet
contemporary, where precision and extravagance never overshadow flavour. Due to this attention to
flavour, in 2019, Lionetti was awarded his first Michelin star as Head Chef of Le Monzù at Hotel Punta
Tragara, becoming the first Capri-born chef to receive this recognition. This milestone not only marked a
defining moment in his career but also established him as one of the leading voices of contemporary
Italian gastronomy.
Today, at Ara Maris, Lionetti brings this same philosophy to life across the hotel’s culinary offering, with a
particular focus on Cora Bistrot, the property’s signature dining destination. Here, the chef presents a
cuisine that is both deeply rooted in the territory and unmistakably modern; one that celebrates the

simplicity of exceptional ingredients while elevating them through creativity and ingrained skills he has
carried with him into all the kitchens he learnt in his family kitchen.
The menus at Cora Bistrot reflect a harmonious conversation between the land and sea, inspired by the
richness of Campania and the broader Mediterranean. Seasonal produce, locally sourced seafood, and
carefully selected ingredients are treated with care and compassion, allowing their natural character to
shine. Each dish becomes an intimate dialogue between the guest and the ingredients; a way of
experiencing the landscape through taste. Where the view, the air and the light seem to become edible
and find their way onto the plate. Each forkful not only is an ode to the area but a line in a story that Luigi
is telling through every bite. A story of Luigi’s heritage and style and how he crafts a modern interpretation
of Italian cuisine that allows the natural textures and flavours of the local produce to speak for themselves
where meals are seasoned with the salt of the sea and the crispness of the breeze.
Beyond the plate, Ara Maris positions itself as a destination where gastronomy, design, and wellbeing
converge. The culinary offering extends across the hotel’s dining spaces, each contributing to a seamless
experience that moves from relaxed daytime moments to sophisticated evening dining, all underpinned by
Lionetti’s vision.
Further reinforcing his connection to the region and its culinary heritage, Luigi Lionetti will also participate
in the fifth edition of Sorrento Gnocchi Day, taking place from 20 to 23 April. The event, which celebrates
one of the most iconic dishes of local tradition, brings together Michelin-starred chefs, emerging talents,
and artisans to reinterpret gnocchi through contemporary perspectives.
As part of the programme’s central gala dinner on 22 April, Lionetti will present his own interpretation
alongside leading figures from Italy’s gastronomic scene, highlighting both his technical expertise and his
commitment to honouring tradition through innovation. His participation underscores Ara Maris’ role as
an active contributor to the cultural and culinary fabric of the Sorrentine Peninsula.
With Luigi Lionetti at the helm, Ara Maris enters a new chapter; one where cuisine becomes a defining
element of the guest experience, shaped by a Michelin-starred perspective and a deep respect for
authentic Italian heritage.
