An enchanting new afternoon tea experience designed to introduce younger guests to one of Britain’s most cherished traditions through royal-inspired creations and beloved British flavours
This June, Hotel Café Royal, London’s iconic hotel on Regent Street at the crossroads of Mayfair and Soho, is delighted to introduce A Little Royal Afternoon Tea, a new experience created especially for younger guests, served within the gilded setting of the historic Café Royal Grill.
Crafted by Head Pastry Chef Maxence Blondelle, the menu offers a playful interpretation of the British afternoon tea experience, combining royal inspiration, classic British flavours and imaginative pâtisserie craftsmanship.
Opening with a procession of playful miniature savouries, the finger sandwich selection offers a fitting first glimpse into the flavours that have long defined the British afternoon tea table. Showcasing some of the finest regional produce from across Great Britain, the menu features Bucking Ham and Cheese, a nod to London’s most famous address and a regal twist on the classic sandwich; The Royal Egg Soldier, dressed with Arlington White egg mayonnaise; and the Covent Garden Cucumber Crown, reimagined with delicate cucumber pearls of cucumber and cream cheese.
From there, the journey moves into a world of edible jewels and storybook pâtisserie. The King’s Ruby Treasure draws inspiration from the glittering gemstones of the Crown Jewels, transformed into a playful popcorn cream choux. The Royal Battenberg reinterprets a beloved British classic with layers of blueberry jam and marbled sugar, while the Strawberry Kingdom Roll evokes summer afternoons with vanilla ganache and strawberry confit. Completing the collection, The Golden Crown Jewel brings together hazelnut gianduja and caramel biscuit in a rich, ceremonious finale.
Traditional plain scones are served with clotted cream and preserves, honouring a cornerstone of British afternoon tea culture, while accompanying refreshments include Café Royal Hot Chocolate, a Coconut Babyccino and Passion Fruit & Orange Tea, each selected to complement the menu’s sweet and savoury offerings. To conclude the experience, The Royal Sundae provides a memorable ending to an afternoon of discovery, celebration and indulgence.
Enhanced by daily live piano performances in the Café Royal Grill, A Little Royal Afternoon Tea invites families to rediscover the heritage and charm of the timeless afternoon tea experience through the eyes of their children.
Beneath the gilded ceilings and mirrored walls of Café Royal Grill, contemporary pâtisserie craftsmanship meets British heritage, creating an experience designed to give younger guests their own Hotel Café Royal memory and introduce them to a tradition that has delighted generations before them.
A Little Royal Afternoon Tea is served at Café Royal Grill and is priced at £35 per person. Reservations are recommended and can be made at hotelcaferoyal.com.
