NEW RIVIERA TERRACE OPENS AT THE CHURCHILL BAR & TERRACE

LONDON (MAY 5, 2026) – This summer, The Churchill Bar & Terrace is inviting guests to experience la belle vie with the launch of its Riviera Terrace, complemented by a refreshed food and spritz menu designed to transport guests to the South of France. For spring and summer, the outdoor space has been reimagined as a daytime destination, with a lunch service introduced for the first time.

Launched on 1st May 2026, the space melds British heritage and the relaxed glamour of the French Riviera to offer a serene escape in the heart of Marylebone. It is inspired by Sir Winston Churchill’s travels to the South of France and captures the spirit of light, leisure and effortless sophistication.

Featuring foliage such as lavender, wisteria, mimosas and hydrangeas to evoke the subtle allure of the Côte d’Azur, the terrace will also provide blankets and soft comfortable seating inviting guests to while away the afternoon over a long, leisurely meal.

Conceived as an extension of the bar, the terrace has been devised as a space to slow down and step away from the pace of the city – whether that be lingering over spritzes, enjoying al fresco lunches or networking over evening cocktails.

The Churchill Bar and Terrace has created a menu of food and spritzes, each inspired by the flavours of the Riviera.

Food highlights include:

  • Beef Carpaccio – with parmesan and rocket
  • Chicken Milanese – with roasted cherry tomatoes
  • Caprese – ripe tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and basil
  • Salade Niçoise – seared tuna, boiled eggs, anchovies, peppers, cucumbers, red onion, tomatoes and niçoise vinaigrette

Spritz highlights include:

  • Finest Hour – featuring Kaffir lime infused Blanco tequila, Campari, agave, lime and grapefruit soda
  • Bon Vivant – made up of Rosé Champagne NV, fig, plum and soda water
  • Chartwell Fizz – with London Dry Gin, lychee, lemon and homemade lavender soda
  • Lady Clementine (non-alcoholic) – containing Everleaf Mountain, Lyre’s Aperitif and homemade hibiscus soda

While the terrace offers a setting to reconnect with family, friends and colleagues, guests can extend that feeling beyond the table, through a bespoke postcard experience. Postcards can be written and sent to loved ones around the world, via the hotel’s dedicated red post box, which can be found on the terrace.

A nod to the golden age of postcards (the early 20th century), often described as the world’s first social network, the experience reflects a time when these short, handwritten messages served as a way to stay connected across distances – keeping friends and family updated on life around the world in a way that felt personal to the recipient.

Nowadays, they offer a considered alternative to modern digital communication, bringing back the simple pleasure of sending and receiving handwritten messages.

Chartered psychologist, Suzy Reading says: “In today’s digital world, handwritten notes feel especially powerful. Their rarity makes them even more significant, providing something physical that we can hold, and reflect an intentional and personalised effort to communicate care.

“From a psychological perspective, they cultivate feelings of intimacy and trust, creating something that can be kept and revisited, offering comfort long after they are first received. The personal nature of this form of communication acts as a powerful trigger, helping people to feel seen, deepening social bonds and reducing stress and loneliness.

“Sending and receiving handwritten notes is not simply a nostalgic gesture, but is a valuable way to boost emotional wellbeing, nurture relationships and bring a deep sense of joy and connection for both writer and recipient.”

The activation is also a nod to Sir Winston Churchill, whose statue sits on the terrace, and to his own era of travel and correspondence, reinforcing the inspiration drawn from his journeys to the South of France. The Churchill Bar and Terrace is open every day from 12pm – 1am. Bookings can be made via the following link: www.thechurchillbar.co.uk.
